/ QUEENSCLIFF HOUSE 2025

The Queenscliff house explores an alternate model for suburban living. The site is exposed to strong coastal breezes and harsh sunlight. A playful arrangement of interconnected rooms and platforms are therefore housed within a protective external masonry shell. Unlike a traditional suburban house, the living spaces are elevated above the bedrooms, whilst maintaining connection to the north facing rear garden. The resulting arrangement is therefore unexpected, spatially rich, and informal.

The restrained material palette of self-finishing materials enhances the design concept. The seamless continuation of the external materials into the interior provides visual connection, and the feeling of being outside, yet protected from the harsh environment.

Material and planning choices have been made in response to sustainable considerations, structural slabs are left unfinished, bricks are carbon neutral.

The result is a dwelling responsive to the clients brief and the climate and tailored to its place.
